Super Simple DIY Lip Balm

One of our favourite areas in the store is our DIY section. We have enough different containers to meet just about any need, along with many beautiful ingredients to make candles, cleaning products, creams, salves, and more!

We would like to assure you that although we're very excited about this section, we are by no means pros! We're just having a lot of fun trying new things. So if you're a newbie to this world of DIY, grab a seat and make yourself at home.

We recently ventured into the world of lip balms, and it's incredibly easy to make, We've also found it's super handy, especially in this season when lips need a little extra TLC. Not only that, you save a ton of money making it yourself, and can tweak the ingredients to meet your personal preferences!

This is the recipe we used, but feel free to play around with different fats, oils, and waxes. The proportions of each should be approximately as follows:

2 TBS shea butter

2 TBS jojoba oil

2-3 tsp beeswax

5-10 drops essential oils (we used peppermint and vanilla)

1. Add all ingredients except the essential oil to a heat-safe container in a pot of boiling water. (For the beeswax, less = softer balm, more = harder balm.)

2. Heat & stir until melted. Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes.

3. If desired, add 5-10 drops of essential oils and stir in.

4. Pour into containers of your choosing. You can leave to dry on the counter, or put them in the freezer until hardened (which is what we did & it worked great).

Et voila! We enjoyed using a mix of repurposed containers we had on hand and new ones. Repurposing is a great way to save money and keep perfectly good containers in use! We carry all of these items in bulk (the only bulk oil we carry at the moment is Mint's Lighten Up: a refreshing blend of Grapefruit, Eucalyptus and Lime to uplift your mood), so you can make a little or make a lot! 🙌
