About

What is Zero Waste?

Zero Waste is a philosophy that encourages the redesign of resource life cycles so that all products are reused. The goal is for no trash to be sent to landfills, incinerators, or the ocean.

The process recommended is one similar to the way that resources are reused in nature.

A zero-waste lifestyle Is about doing what we can as individuals to keep the items we purchase from going to the landfill. It is also about simplifying our lives, curbing our consumption, and supporting companies who are actively working to reduce waste.

The 6 R’s of zero waste living:

1) Refuse what we do not need
2) Reduce what we do need
3) Reuse what we consume
4) Repair what is worn or broken
5) Recycle what we cannot refuse, reduce, or reuse
6) Rot (compost) the rest
