5 Zero Waste Activities to Do With Kids

These ideas are to help engage the child(ren) in your life and help them recognize challenges we have, encourage connection, gain earth friendly skills, and have fun!

5 Zero Waste Ideas for Kids:

๐ŸŒณ Spend time in nature. Creating a bond with nature is the best way to inspire kids to care for it. The days are starting to get longer, and with that comes more opportunities to enjoy the plethora of options we have in this beautiful valley - or wherever you live!

๐Ÿ›’ Play a game of "Spot the Plastic" when out shopping. Talk about where all this plastic comes from & where it goes. Once you get started, you'll be surprised at how much plastic you - and especially your kids - notice. Raising this awareness enables you and your kids to make more conscious decisions together about which products you will or won't buy.

๐ŸŒธ Have them create something from nature. It could be made from treasures you found on a grand outdoor adventure or simple items, like pine cones & leaves found in your own back yard. Some ideas are: pressing plants & flowers, making food/drinks from harvested plants/berries, fairy gardens, mandalas... so many possibilities here!

๐Ÿงต Teach them to sew. For younger kids, starting with felt and bigger needles for their tiny hands is fun (and great for their fine motor skills). When they get a bit bigger, they can mend their own clothes! Whether it's sewing a button back on, mending holes/tears, or perhaps making their own creations from thrifted items, this is a skill that will last a lifetime. It's helpful for saving money and reducing the amount of textile waste in the world.

๐ŸŒฑ Plant a garden! Not only is this a skill that benefits the earth and enables you to eat cleaner food, gardening has been shown to elevate moods and increase immunity. Not sure where to start? Potatoes, radishes and peas are super easy. Kids - of all ages - discovering they can actually create food is a joy that can't be beat. (We've got some great seeds to get you started!)
